GENERAL INTRODUCTION

This meeting takes place under the second Working Group (WG 1.2) of the first main component of the project: Access to Justice and Legal Aid, and is focused on Justice and the New Technologies. The objective of this activity will be to prepare a handbook describing approaches and best practices with regards to the use of technologies for the case management, circulation of materials, data collection in the legal field and communication of case law to the public. This is the last of 3 meetings devoted to this issue.

METHODOLOGY FOR THE PREPARATION AND DELIVERY OF THE HANDBOOK

The Working Group (WG) will function as real think-tank in the field covered and will be an opportunity to exchange information and debate on various topics. The results of the work of the WG will be of paramount importance to obtain a real knowledge of the current situation and have in-depth discussions on the topics concerned. In addition, the handbook will also be able to be used as a practical guide. The handbook will be prepared in time to be presented to the Intermediate Regional Conference in the course of the second year of the project.

During this third and last meeting we will continue the work started on the occasion of the second meeting and will have a new opportunity of sharing the international experts’ opinion and the participants’ approach on the main topics to be discussed from their own perspective and respective competences. Through an in-depth and detailed discussion, we will have a profound exchange on the main topics that will be tackled during this third meeting: Common offices and judicial architecture; Procedural schemes (Workflows); Use of audio and video technology; Judicial statistics; Exploitation/Data processing and decisions by the judicial authority (e-Justice); Time management; Satisfaction level and quality control; and Performance assessment.

The aim of the discussion is to contribute to finalising the handbook.
